Medicare Supplement
Covering the gaps left by Medicare.

Pay for the costs not covered by Original Medicare.

A Medicare Supplement insurance plan from ManhattanLife, also known as Medigap, helps pay for deductibles, co-payments, co-insurance, and other out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare. Some Medicare Supplement policies also cover services that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, like medical care when traveling outside of the U.S.

MEDICARE HIGHLIGHTS

$5,460

In 2016, people with traditional Medicare spent on average of $5,460 out-of-pocket for health care expenses, including premiums, cost sharing, and costs for services not covered by Medicare.1

$1,408

The Medicare Part A deductible in 2020, for example, is $1,408. This is the amount you must pay before your coverage begins.2

50%

Half of traditional Medicare beneficiaries spent at least 12% of their income on out-of-pocket health care costs in 2016. One quarter spent at least 23% and 10% spent nearly half of their income on health-related services.1

WHY MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT?

Medicare was not designed to cover all of your doctor and hospital bills, and, without supplemental insurance, the costs of health care can get out of hand. ManhattanLife offers a number of different Medicare Supplement policies to help cover some of the costs that Medicare alone does not.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

You can apply for a Medicare Supplement insurance policy if you are:

A resident of a state where the policy is offered
Enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B
Age 65 or over or, in some states, under age 65 with a disability (plan offerings and eligibility vary by state)

WHEN DO I ENROLL?

Your Medigap Open Enrollment is a 6-month period that begins the day you are both 65 AND have Original Medicare (Parts A and B). If you only bought Part A when you turned 65, your Open Enrollment begins the day you buy Part B

AFTER YOUR ENROLLMENT PERIOD

If you enroll after your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period, you may have to answer health questions during a simple underwriting process. Additional guaranteed issue enrollment periods may be available in your state. You also may have questions about specific situations, such as disability or existing health conditions. Contact us at 1-800-877-7703 for more information about your eligibility or when to enroll.

* Starting January 1, 2020, Medigap plans that cover the Part B deductible (Plans C and F) won’t be available to people new to Medicare. If you have one of these plans (or the high deductible version of Plan F), you can keep it. If you were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020, but not yet enrolled, you may buy one of these plans with the Part B deductible coverage.
